How to burn it, and how to keep it.

Place the vessel on a level, heat-resistant surface, away from anything that can catch light. Remove all packaging from the insert before lighting.

Burn until the melted wax reaches the edge of the glass — one to two hours. Wax remembers its first burn; a short first burn will leave a tunnel that does not recover.

Trim the wick to 5 mm before lighting. A long wick smokes, and a smoking wick marks the glass.

Burn for no more than four hours at a time, and keep the flame out of draughts — they cause uneven burning and soot. Stop burning altogether when around 10 mm of wax remains, below which the glass can overheat.

Extinguish with a snuffer, or the lid where one exists. Blowing a candle out scatters hot wax and smoke. Never use water.

Let the insert cool completely — at least two hours after the flame is out. The glass holds heat long after it looks cold.

Lift it clear of the chamber. It is not fixed, and should not need force. Seat the fresh insert until it rests flat.

If wax has run beneath the insert, warm the chamber gently with a cloth and lift the residue away before replacing. Never use a blade or a sharp edge inside the vessel.

The vessel is cast in mineral composite and sealed, but it is stone in character: porous underneath, and happier dry than wet.

Cleaning

Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth. Nothing abrasive, nothing solvent, no household cleaner. Never submerge it, and never put it in a dishwasher.

Wax

Small marks lift with a soft cloth once cool. Do not scrape.

Water

Do not use the vessel as a vase, or to hold anything wet. Prolonged moisture will mark the surface.

Weight

Carry it with two hands. It is heavier than it looks, and the material will chip if dropped on a hard floor.

Tone and surface vary between pieces. Small pores, faint tonal movement and slight differences in weight are the cast recording its own making — not faults, and not grounds for concern.

The finish will warm slightly with age. A vessel three years old will not look like one demoulded last week, and should not.
